Celebrating the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week: The ADHD Society of the Philippines Steps Up

With the annual observance of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) week drawing closer, the ADHD Society of the Philippines is all set to participate, committing to the noble cause of uplifting the lives of persons with disabilities.

The NDPR Week, an initiative spearheaded by the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), occurs from July 17 to 23 each year, as declared by Proclamation No. 1870 issued by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos in 1979. The week-long celebration aims to enhance public awareness about disability issues and stimulate collective action to improve the socio-economic conditions of people with disabilities, thereby promoting their integration into mainstream society.

As a non-profit organization that provides support, education, and advocacy for individuals and families dealing with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the ADHD Society has been a key partner in this initiative.

Last year, the ADHD Society made a powerful contribution to the NDPR Week by conducting a webinar titled "Family Support Group and Business Guide for Entrepreneurs with ADHD" on July 21, 2022. This innovative webinar was designed to offer guidance and inspiration to persons with ADHD who harbored interests in entrepreneurship.

The session delved into the unique challenges and opportunities that entrepreneurs with ADHD encounter, offering practical insights and advice to those looking to navigate the business world. Speakers from the ADHD Society shared their expert perspectives, and success stories were highlighted from individuals with ADHD who have triumphantly built their own businesses.

This particular initiative was instrumental in emphasizing that having ADHD is not a barrier but can, in fact, serve as an asset in entrepreneurship. It fostered a spirit of resilience, showcasing that with the right support and guidance, individuals with ADHD can excel in entrepreneurship and contribute significantly to the socio-economic fabric of society.

The Society's endeavors during the NDPR Week in 2022 indeed had a profound impact, inspiring and equipping many individuals with ADHD to chase their entrepreneurial dreams.

This year, the ADHD Society is all set to contribute significantly to the week-long celebration with two key sessions.

The morning session titled "Parental Strategies to Empower Children with ADHD" is meticulously designed to address the unique challenges and opportunities associated with parenting children with ADHD. The session spotlights effective parenting strategies, the promotion of self-advocacy in children, and navigating the complex terrain of educational rights and accessibility. This session aims to foster growth, promote advocacy, and contribute to the broader goals of disability prevention, rehabilitation, and inclusion.

In the afternoon, the ADHD Society will host a session focusing on livelihood and entrepreneurship, specifically catering to adults with ADHD and their families. This seminar will provide a practical guide on how to start and register a business, along with financing options for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Through these sessions, the ADHD Society of the Philippines exemplifies its commitment to uplifting the lives of those dealing with ADHD. The organization is committed to dismantling barriers, challenging misconceptions, promoting inclusivity, and empowering individuals with ADHD to achieve their full potential.

As we anticipate the NDPR Week for this year, we applaud the ADHD Society's continued efforts in fostering a society where every individual, irrespective of their abilities or disabilities, is valued, respected, and empowered. The organization's contributions are indeed a testament to the transformative power of awareness, inclusion, and societal support, mirroring the very objectives that NDPR Week strives to achieve.

So as we approach this significant week, let's join hands with the ADHD Society of the Philippines and the NCDA in promoting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, reminding ourselves that in a world of diversity, no one should be left behind.
